Swiss Contract but Maternity in the UK

Ok so I hope someone on here can help, I have had a look but canít seem to find another thread that quite deals with my situation.

I am 5 months pregnant and have been told that after my maternity leave there will not be a job for me here. I had thought about staying here to have the baby but after Christmas really just want to be at home with family (UK) if there is no future here for me with my job.

So my proposal to my company is that I move to UK in April, work from home till mid May, have the baby, go on maternity leave then gardening leave etc so my contract will be looking to be terminated around December.

My question is can I do this? Have a Swiss contract but have the baby in Scotland (my health insurance guy said I still need Swiss health insurance) and live in the UK but on a Swiss contract for around 8 months? And if so what do i need to do?

Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated

Many thanks
Jo

Re: Swiss Contract but Maternity in the UK

I assume they are letting you have maternity leave as they cannot legally terminate your contract as you're pregnant - then paying out your notice at the end of that so as to legally end the contract?

This seems to be a tax/residency issue. If you need to be legally resident to be paid then you need health insurance and an address.

You might want to talk to a tax expert and see if you can negotiate a lump sum and then deregister. Also check if you can deregister, keep your bank account and be paid monthly (possibly an issue due to social contributions).

It's quite a unique situation.

Whatever happens in CH, if your actually resident in the UK, the Swiss salary will be taxable in the UK with any Swiss tax paid credited against the UK liability.

Only on the Swiss side of the equation..... the larger liability will be in the UK.
