Finalizing a non-EU work permit

Hi guys,

I have a question about the work permit process for non-EU citizens. Once there is approval both from the canton and the FOM (Bern), how much time does it usually take for the cantonal immigration office to actually give you the green light to start working? To be more specific, I am talking about Vaud, so if I understand it well, it's up to the Service de la population to handle this. Any experiences from the horse's mouth?

Thanks!

Once there is approval both from the canton and the FOM (Bern), then pay about 25 CHF to get an "attestation", you can work immediately without the plastic permit.

from the date of approval decision made, it takes up to 6 weeks for the plastic permit deliver to your home.

Re: Finalizing a non-EU work permit

Well, at SPOP (Service de la population) they say I can start working, which is great, but there is no document they can issue. This is a bit odd as the federal approval stipulates that I can by no means start working before the relevant cantonal immigration authority allows it (which they do, just not in writing). Maybe I'm overthinking it...

Has anyone been in a similar situation in Vaud?

Re: Finalizing a non-EU work permit

Hi there,

How did you come to know that both FOM and cantonal authorities approved your permit?

Had you called them and the news was told to you verbally?

Usually (Well at least in my case) you get a letter with in a week or two (maximum) with your details, type of permit and by when should you enter Switzerland (If you dont enter with in given time your visa will no more be valid).

You cannot start work with out that letter. Hope by now you have received the letter as i see your reply is 4 days old.

Wish you good start and have good time.

Cheers,
Manju
