basel stadt vs basel landschafft

Hello,

I have been unable to find an answer to this on the forums or elsewhere online. If your work permit is issued by Basel Stadt, can you still live in Basel Landschafft? I appreciate that this may be a stupid question, but any input is greatly appreciated.

I am non-EU, my wife and children are British citizens.

Thank you,
Dave

Stanbasel has no particular reputation at present
Re: basel stadt vs basel landschafft

Yes, some people prefer to live in BL especially if the kids are in school at ISB Aesch or Reinach.

Yes, and it's much more pleasant in BL (just one "f", btw).

Having children, you'll probably find Baselland more to your liking, and you'll probably pay less income tax, too.

Re: basel stadt vs basel landschafft

As a non-EU, you cannot live in Basel-Land instead of Basel-Stadt without respective permission. However, getting that permission is normally not a big deal. Contact the commune in the canton you want to move to and inform them you want to move - that's usually all it takes. Regardless, best to clarify them upfront to be sure of the process - some cantons want a couple of documents (work contract, Betreibungsauszug etc.), though most don't.

Art. 37 here: http://www.admin.ch/opc/en/classifie...232/index.html

This is assuming you have a B permit and are currently employed. If you have an L and/or are not employed, the above doesn't apply.

Thank you for this. It opens up the property search quite significantly.

Does anyone have any experience with a working non-eu spouse and a non-working eu-spouse?
