little confused

So I have my B beweligung but its only for 1 year (( this August )) then I get my C beweligung, the only thing is, is that I want to go back to Canada around April so i can get registered for school for this upcoming September. So I am a little unsure on what to do, I have already been living here for a year and a half doing nothing really because of schooling that i don't have my schule abschluss or an ausbildung and language issues.

And I am not sure that if i stay here till August then go back in August if i will have enough time to get registered for this September........ So i guess my question is, is that is it worth it for me to go back in April or wait here and waste another 6 month here doing nothing because of the issues i stated abouve ??

Re: little confused

So you want to go back to Canada in April, but you won't be back by August? Why so long? You can't stay out of the country for more than 6 months and keep your residence permit!

Re: little confused

Ok, I can understand that you want to go back to Canada and study.

However, you aren't going to be able to do this AND keep your Swiss residence. I'm not sure why you'd want to either, as you'd have to keep paying Swiss health insurance.

Also, I can't figure out how you think you'll be getting a C permit in August, if you've only been here for 1.5 years. You need 5 years on a B to get a C.

Re: little confused

I'm afraid Mischka you can't have it both ways it seems. You'll have to make a choice here.

But I am a tad confused too- you've been here without working for 1 and half years, so you've had plenty of time to gain good language skills- knowing it is the key to further progress professionally.

I am not totally sure, but I don't think you get a C permit when your husband does, I think you have to be on a B permit for 5 years yourself. I can't say for sure though, maybe someone else can confirm? I think everyone gets 5 years worth of B's, if you marry a B permit holder, a C permit holder or a Swiss Citizen.

But it is irrelevant, if you go back to Canada, you will have to give up Swiss residency.

Re: little confused

You need to talk to your gemeinde admin office about your further education plans. This is one of the few acceptable reasons for putting a permit on hold. This can be done for up to 4 years. However, the gemeinde has to agree and will decide how long it's on hold for. If they say no, then you'll lose your permit and your husband would have to apply again for family reunification for you once you finish school in Canada.

Re: little confused

Could you not go back to Canada in April to register for school and then come back to Switzerland until school starts. You can apply for a permit renewal a couple of months in advance so you don't have to wait until August to do it.

If you do get a C permit then study abroad is one of the valid reasons for putting the permit on hold so you could then request that for your studies. If you get issued a B permit then I'm afraid there is no way to keep the permit if you leave to study abroad and you will have to apply again when/if you come back.
