C Permit for 4 years only??

Hello!

I hope someone had similar situation and can help me.

I am a non-EU, entered Switzerland in 2009 and received my C permit in 2014 in Geneva, as I asked for it and proved that I am well integrated.

So I was always convinced that C is given for 5 years. But mine was for 4 years. From 2014 to 2018. So I thought it was just a typing error and wrote an email to OCP. The women came back to explain that it is for 5 years and not for 4. They way she counted was - 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 - see it is 5, not 4! (But it is still only for 4 years).

So I thought I would go there and speak to someone else who can count years. But the guy I spoke to in OCP told that it is correct that I received for 4 years only as I am non-EU and 5-year permits are for EU only. Voila.

Does anyone had similar experience. Being non-EU did you get your C permits for 4 years or for 5 years? Thanks.

Maybe specifying exact dates would help.

Would you not just renew it and normally the renewal is straight forward. Just means you do it slightly more often

Yes, I know, and not too much concerned. But it adds 1 renewal before I am eligible for passport. Just more curious now if other non-EUs have 4 or 5 years.

Re: C Permit for 4 years only??

FWIW, in Kt SZ, non-EU:

1st C permit - 2 years
2nd C permit - 3 years
3rd C permit - 5 years
4th C permit - 5 years

I assume/hope all will be five years from now on...

As in all things, YMMV.

You'd have to renew a 3rd time anyway. Because if you got 2 5 year permits your 2nd permit would expire just as you were able to apply for naturalisation. You'd still need a 3rd c permit whilst going through the naturalisation process.
