L Permit Dependent Permit

Hi all,

Is it possible to get my wife here on a tourist visa and then apply for a dependent permit.

I am hoping to get her here ASAP since we've already stayed apart for a few months.

Re: L Permit Dependent Permit

Assuming she is also Indian, no. You need to apply for a family reunification permit, which involves a D-visa to enter the country - not a tourist visa.

Re: L Permit Dependent Permit

Thanks for the quick reply.

But can we start the dependent process from here, and then have her travel back and come to Zurich on D visa ?

Re: L Permit Dependent Permit

You could try, but you need to make clear to the authorities that she is going back to her home country to apply for the visa and is not trying to circumvent the system by being in the country here when you apply.

Frankly, I'd just go for the dependent's permit straightaway and then that avoids any confusion between the tourist and Type D visa applications later on. It'll probably take just as long to process the tourist as the Type D so you'd probably be delaying getting her into the country permanently.

Re: L Permit Dependent Permit

Few days ago there was a thread Re-Appeal for dependent VISA rejection where dependent visa was not granted because his remaining stay was too short to apply for a dependent visa as per authorities. If you are in similar situation then better would be to apply for a visitor visa of 3 months and bring your family here. Then your family go back to India and apply for dependent visa as soon as you receive authorization for one more year. If your permit was recently renewed/issued then I would recommend straight forward going for dependent visa.
