Naturalisation in Dübendorf

Hi there,

I am a bit confused -- amused, I may say -- about a fact (I may have misunderstood the German text). But I want a clarification about something I could only find partial information here in EF.

The questions are the following: Did any of you request the Swiss citizenship by naturalisation in Dübendorf? Which are the requirements?

I explain myself: I seem to have read in the German Wikipedia that 15 years of living in Dübendorf are required (!). This seems to be confirmed in very old articles in media.

However, when you go to the Dübendorf page on Einbürgerung states that you need to have lived the last 2 years in Dübendorf.

http://www.duebendorf.ch/de/verwaltu...age=14#faq4367

But the Gemeinde law on citizenship seems to speak of the 15 years again

http://www.duebendorf.ch/dl.php/de/0...verordnung.pdf

Some previous post here in the EF seem to talk only about 12 years. Therefore, I am perplex. May someone in the know enlighten me?

Many thanks!

Re: Naturalisation in Dübendorf

I also live in the Gemeinde of Duebendorf. I went to the Stadthaus last year to find our the requirements for applying for Swiss nationality. You must have lived in Switzerland for 15 years and the last two years in Duebendorf. All the other usual requirements apply: language certification, history & culture course taken at WBK, interviews, etc. In my experience, Duebendorf seems to always go above and beyond the requirements of other Gemeindes.

Just last week I went to enquire about applying early for citizenship for our children as any time living here between the ages of 10-20 years counts as double. It turns out that since they weren't born here they cannot apply until they are 16 and must follow the same requirements I listed above. It they had been born here then it would have been much, much easier.

Re: Naturalisation in Dübendorf

Many thanks for your prompt reply!

Did you ask (last week when you went) if any change is envisioned in the future, given the new naturalisation law of last year (that moved the requirement to 10 years)?

Re: Naturalisation in Dübendorf

Sorry,

but both information is wrong.

Neither is it 15 years, the requirement of the old legislation of Einbürgerungsgesetz, nor is a Swiss birth place of any importance for minors to apply for naturalisation.

This is federal law i.e. the ultimate truth.

What they probably mean is that 12 years of a Swiss residence is not enough, as the process of naturalisation itself can take max. 3 years.

P.S. The 2nd link, the one in pdf, is odd, in fact. 15 years is illegal as a requirement.
