Tourist Visa or Visitor Visa?

Hello everybody

I have a question concerning Visa type. I guess a lot of people here in the Forum have some experience about such things. i never needed a schengen Visa ;-)

the plan is i wanna bring my friends from Bangkok to Switzerland for a two week visit. show them all nice things from switzerland. now we are starting for the schengen visa process. (heeeeaaadache )

my question to you guys is: what are your suggestions? is it simpler to do a visitor visa or should they come with a tourist visa. As i read on the goverment site, they have to proof an amount for 100CHF per day, right?

and for visitor visa i have to sign up a Schengen Travelinsurence witch is quite expensive, right.

so i am open for any suggestions!

Thanks in advance for all your resondings

Re: Tourist Visa or Visitor Visa?

A visitor visa is a tourist visa - there's no difference.

Your other questions are answered here under the "For Hosts in Switzerland" section.

Re: Tourist Visa or Visitor Visa?

Tourist Visa : Responsibility lies only with the tourist to convince the visa authorities that (s)he will return back after touring, also will need to show some kind of accommodation(hotel) reservation and enough funds for travel

Visitor Visa : Above minus a hotel reservation, the host in Switzerland kind of shares the responsibility.

In my opinion one has a shade better chance of getting a visitor visa than a tourist, the documents being in order from all concerned parties

Re: Tourist Visa or Visitor Visa?

There is a difference.

Tourist visa - Tourism. Stay in hotel or rented flat.

Visitor visa - Relative/Friend staying with you. (Invitation letter is required)

Re: Tourist Visa or Visitor Visa?

Maximum duration of visa given is also different. When someone applies from India:

Tourist Visa: 30 days(maximum)
Visitor Visa: 90 days(maximum)

But as your guest will be for two weeks only. Choose any of them.

Buy travel insurance from Bangkok it would be much cheaper than buying here.

Re: Tourist Visa or Visitor Visa?

Thanks guys for all answers.

we apply for visitor visa, its much better!

about the insurance (just that you know):
Swiss government accept ONLY an Schengen-Visa Insurance. cannot do it in Thailand. but its easy to find some companys providing this package.
Further an invitation letter is not enough, i also have to fill out a form, where i guarantee for them.

but anyway thanks to all!!!
