Question about Swiss schengen visa

Hello members,
I have just received the visa the Schengen visa from Switzerland. The validity of the visa is for 3 months (difference between from and until dates), it is multiple entry and the duration of stay is 30 days.

My question is: what is the meaning of this "30 day" period? Does it mean that I can enter into Schengen region infinite number times in the 3 months validity period and any given visit can not be more than 30 days? Or, does it mean that the first time I enter the Schengen region, 30 day clock starts and I can re-enter only in these 30 days, but I can chose this 30 day window in the three months validity?

Thank you for help in advance.
Cheers!!

It means you can enter any number of times within these 3 months and sum total of stay duration for all the entries combined cannot exceed 30 days. For e.g

Valid Visa from 1st May - 31st July ( 3 months)
First visit to Switzerland : Arrive 1st may and leave on 10th may : 10 days used (30 - 10 = 20 remaining)
Second visit to Switzerland : Arrive 1st june and leave on 15th june : another 15 days used (30 - 10 - 15 = 5 remaining)
Final visit to Switzerland : Arrive 1st july and leave on 5th july : final 5 days used (30 - 10 - 15 - 5 = 0 remaining)

Re: Question about Swiss schengen visa

So if it says the duration is 30 days, and I stay for 33 days, will there be any problem? Or will I get arrested in the airport?

I am asking cuz my friend is coming from China and on his visa it says 23 days, but he might want to stay a bit longer in Europe.

You are not allowed to, simple as that. And yes, there will be a problem if you stay longer. You'll certainly get told off at the border control for overstaying and you risk being fined as well. A note of the fine could be put on record and it could make it more difficult to get another visa in the future. Worst case is getting banned from entering the Schengen Area for between 1 and 3 years, plus of course that would be on record as well so applying for a new visa could be even more difficult.

Remember that the day you arrive and the day you depart count in the total so your 30th day should be your departure date, not the 31st day. Same with your friend, his departure date is the 23rd day, not the 24th or any day after that.

Re: Question about Swiss schengen visa

I will definitely agree with Medea Fleecestealer!! Visa is not like a ticket for a train or bus that you will just get away with a fine or difference in tariff. I recommend being extra cautious when it comes to international travel, visa issues and tax issues. A good travel history goes a long way in helping you obtain the next visa, while a black mark can make things really difficult. Authorities dealing with Visas do not have a high tolerance and they are paid to be extra paranoid.

Sorry for sounding like giving a lecture!
