Lost Indian Passport

Hi,

I am currently residing in Zurich on L-permit.
I lost my Indian passport along with passports of my wife and kid.
I understand from internet search that I can apply for a duplicate passport from Bern embassy.
However, I am finding it difficult as the embassy numbers are not being answered. I somehow got a person on emergency line but the information provided was not enough.
Could someone who went though same problem share experience especially the documents related information.
Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Ullhas

Re: Lost Indian Passport

Having dealt with the Indian embassy in the past, I suggest you pull all your ID documentation together and go there, in person, during office hours... The office hours should be listed on their website somewhere.

Basically, when I had to get a Visa from there, the do nothing via telephone or email and don't even handle money... I had to walk from there to the post office to pay the money for the Visa to their bank, then walk back with the payment reciept to prove I had paid, and then they would process it... And all within their opening hours...

When you say 'lost' do you mean can't find them, or they have been stolen or left somewhere by accident? It may be worth taking extra effort to find them, or wait for them to turn up...unless you think they may have been stolen...

Re: Lost Indian Passport

Thanks Swisspea for your reply.
I lost it at Venice airport and tried chasing Venice airport authorities whole 2 days and have got reply consistently that they can't find same for me. Considering fact that it takes about 2 months for new passports to be received, I decided to apply right away. :-(

Re: Lost Indian Passport

Does Venice airport have a lost property service? i would ask them, and also contact the Indian consulate general for Italy...perhaps they return them there if found...

+1
Send an email to the Indian Embassy in Italy, see if they have been sent there.

Re: Lost Indian Passport

I saw above link does not talk about your situation. I would suggest make a quick trip to Bern to know the exact requirements to replace your passport and later go along with your family with all the required documents, payment slips etc. May be in this time you also hear about the lost passports.

Re: Lost Indian Passport

Just go to the embassy with all the documentation. Even if u 'luckily' get them on phone, they will not give you any information over phone.

Re: Lost Indian Passport

Thank you everyone for your replies.
I have already contacted Venice airport lost and found department and got negative response twice.
I have also mailed Indian embassy at Italy and awaiting a response from them.

Meanwhile I was finally able to reach Bern embassy and they briefed me about the documentation requirements. After hearing very few documents required, am feeling a bit relieved.

My plan is to wait for a week, just in case someone finds and contacts us with our lost passports. Or else proceed with duplicate passport request next week.

Thanks once again. I really got some stress off after your inputs.
