I'm Norine from America

Hi,

I live in California, but am thinking about joining au pair in Switzerland. I am currently a full-time student, and hoping to travel by sometime in August. I would like to stay in Switzerland for at most a year.

I'm a down to earth person, and it would be great to meet someone on here who is a member of au pair, and would like to hear your experience.

Am willing to meet someone who enjoys hiking, science, and something educational

Re: I'm Norine from America

Welcome to the forum.

Understand that as a non-EU au pair you can only be employed via an agency approved by the Swiss authorities. Here are a couple:

www.profilia.ch

www.perfectway.ch

"The Law on Foreign Nationals, in force since 1 January 2008, has introduced the following changes:

Au pairs from third countries (e.g. USA, Canada, Thailand, etc.) can only receive permits if they are placed through an agency which is approved and licensed by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO). Currently there are only few such agencies specialising in the placement of au-pairs (e.g. profilia). However, we expect the number to increase throughout the year. Au pairs may now be placed only if they are between 18 to 25 years old.

Re: I'm Norine from America

Hello there -
I worked as an au pair in the Zurich area - came here via an agency called Windconnections (http://www.aupairlink.ch/en/). The lady who runs it is great! They help you organise everything, so all you have to do is submit an application, talk to them, and they'll let you know what happens next.
Good luck!
