Re: family reunion visa some ideas suggestions and help needed......

Not sure what a D permit is, something to do with diplomatic or international organisations?

It does take months I'm afraid so just be patient. Has he called to check on the status of the application? Sometimes things get stuck so a phone call or personal visit just to check may get things moving again.

Surely he has a B permit if Italian. The is no such thing as a D permit. There is the D-visa, but as an Italian he wouldn't have needed that.

Re: family reunion visa some ideas suggestions and help needed......

Sorry I don't have any helpful advice to offer, but I can provide the website for the Swiss office of immigration (in English):

https://www.bfm.admin.ch/bfm/en/home.html

Through that website, I found the following:

"
How long does the visa procedure take?

Once a Swiss representation has considered a Schengen visa application to be admissible, the application will, as a rule, be processed and a decision taken within fifteen days. Applications are considered to be admissible if the representation has received the applicant’s passport, photo, and identity documents, and if the applicant has been fingerprinted and the visa fee been paid. Under certain circumstances, the period for processing an application may be extended by 30 to 60 days.
Dealing with applications for a national (Type D) visa falls under cantonal jurisdiction. Stays subject to Type D visa requirements must be previously authorized by the competent authorities. The time cantonal authorities need to process an application may vary according to canton and purpose of stay. For detailed information, please turn to the competent cantonal migration authorities:
Cantonal immigration and labour market authorities

There also appears to be an Embassy of Switzerland in Nairobi. Perhaps they could be of some assistance?

Actually there does seem to be, though I haven't been able to find out exactly who might qualify for it. The only mention I've found is here:

https://hoststates.web.cern.ch/hosts...sCi960300.html

Also "E", "I" and "P" permits.

Sounds like it's either lost/stuck in the postal system or been misplaced at either the embassy or here at the Swiss end. Give them a few more weeks and try again to find out if they've arrived yet.

they never loose any documents...its because you are non european and they might be checking authenticity of docs you have provided them..which might take a couple of days or even weeks.Anyways Swiss embassies are the quickest in processing Visas etc and if i am not wrong they usually give their decision within 8 weeks. So gud luck for your D visa.

She said neither the Swiss embassy or the authorities here seem to have them so checking them is going to be a bit difficult I'd say. Embassy says they've sent them, but Swiss authorities haven't received them.

The D visa which you need to come to Switzerland can take 8 weeks and with the holidays you've lost (at least) 2 weeks. So 10 weeks shouldn't be unusual.

It is unlikely they are actually lost. My guess is your file is probably sitting on someone's desk waiting to be entered into the "system".

Call them again next week and ask if they have been located and if not what you need to do. Did you keep a copy of everything you submitted?

Mine took a good long while to process, believe I submitted it in February and got the visa in May? Might not have taken that long, but definitely wasn't the fastest process. They also don't provide any updates, but should be able to tell you at least if it's in process or not.

Keep in mind that once you get the visa, you have 90 days to enter the country - that was a bit of a surprise for us since we had to plan an international move real fast.

Once the documents are "verified" (which may take a couple months) they are sent by diplomatic post to Switzerland.

The diplomatic post goes via Bern and takes a couple of weeks, so it's not necessarily delayed.

- and once they get sent off, the local representation probably isn't steering the process anymore and so can't give updates.

One key issue which could be slowing things down, or stopping them- is whether he has enough funds/salary to fund all your costs without requiring social/goverment help? This is also the case for Swiss citizens and foreign spouses- as highlighted in our local paper today.

End of November to mid-Jan is not just a couple of weeks, even allowing for Christmas/New Year break. And I wouldn't expect diplomatic post to be affected like the normal post - or am I wrong. I assume this sort of thing goes in the diplomatic bags or similar?

No but if she applied in November you have to allow some time for the private investigators to carry out verification process and the embassy to stamp the papers before actually sending the doucuments off to switzerland. For late Nov. it doesn't seem especially late
