Long term student visa (D)

Hi,
I am going to complete a Master degree starting from this Fall in Zürich. I applied for a National D visa, and they issued me one. However, it was issued for 3 months for some reason I do not know, although I will stay there for 2 years. It says Type 'D' on the visa. I could not be sure if everything is OK. I would appreciate any guidance.
Thanks.

Re: Long term student visa (D)

You need a visum to enter the country. Then you need to apply for a student permit.

Waiting for the experts to elaborate

Re: Long term student visa (D)

I assume as the visa's been issued that your student permit has been approved. You'll need to go to the cantonal migration office when you arrive to start the process of getting the permit issued to you - it'll take several weeks so be patient.

The visa is only for entry into Switzerland - the permit is what allows you to live/study here while you do your course.
