Stagiaire [young professionals] permit - any experiences?

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if anyone had any information on the "stagiaire permit"? I'm currently a non-EU Master student at the ETH and will hopefully get my degree in August. I have done an internship and now a master thesis with a company here in Switzerland (will be more than 1 year working for them).

They have offered me a full-time temp job as a project manager and since I'm still a student, HR said the authorities would be willing to go the "stagiaire permit" route. I've read about what this is and it seems that it's mostly for people who want to come to Switzerland for some apprenticeships or internships from a non-EU country. Even though it's not really my situation at the moment, I guess this was the only way I could get a work permit. My concern now is what will happen to my current situation?

Apparently I will lose this student B permit that I have and get this stagiaire one. Would that mean I will lose also the opportunity to get the "6-month job seeker" permit that graduates get?

I haven't gotten the permit yet, but they've told me that my current B is essentially, which is horrible since I still had another year left on it and the new permit will only be for 6 months.

Looking for any help or experiences with this permit...

Thanks!

The stagiaire sounds like not such a bad deal, as it looks like it allows you to stay up to 18 months. Is the employer only offering you 6 months?

Google translate of the above:

Trainees can obtain a work and residence permit in Switzerland for a maximum of 18 months.

Yeah, my contract is only for 6 months for the moment. That's why I wanted to see if the 6-month post graduation rule still applied so I'm not left with nothing if they can't take me on as a permanent employee afterwards.
