UK citizen to marry Swiss resident with F permit

Hi, I'm a UK national living in London and my girlfriend is a Swiss resident with a F permit (through asylum). We are looking to get married and for me to move to Swiss (Zurich). Can I move to Swiss on a spouse visa? Or would I need to apply for a work permit to live & work in Swiss after getting married to my girlfriend? What's the best way for me to marry my girlfriend and settle in Switzerland. And how long should this process take? Any advice would be appreciated.

Re: UK citizen to marry Swiss resident with F permit

You can simply move here and notify your arrival shortly after arriving. You then explain to your Gemeinde your reason for moving/wanting to settle here. You tell them you want to marry your girlfriend and will live together.

You do not need a visa if you are a U.K. national. You can just move here. You will need your passport. Your birth certificate may well come in useful.

What you will be applying for is a foreigner's residence permit, which enables you to reside here legally - a residence permit 'B' valid for 5 years. The permit also allows you to work during your 5-year stay. You do not need a separate work permit.

Whether there are complications because your future spouse has an F-permit, I can't say at this stage. It may depend on the duration of her permit too.

Re: UK citizen to marry Swiss resident with F permit

Welcome to the forum.

Good luck finding the information you seek.
As a side note, this country's name is Switzerland, not Swiss.

Re: UK citizen to marry Swiss resident with F permit

If you don't have a job contract yet you'll be applying for an L permit to look for jobs. This permit is valid for 3 months but can be renewed for up to 18 months as long as you have sufficient funds to support yourself. The general figure is 100 Francs per person per day.

Also take a look at this thread, there are some hopefully helpful links there too:

Re: UK citizen to marry Swiss resident with F permit

You can "Just move here". However you need to prove you can support yourself financially to get a residence permit. So either have sufficient savings, a work contract in Switzerland OR once you are married if your wife has enough money she can support you financially.

Thanks for all your advises.

Thanks for the response. So would I be able to apply for a 'foreigner's residence permit, which enables you to reside here legally - a residence permit 'B' valid for 5 years' (as mentioned by plumtree above) if I can prove I can support yourself financially?

If you can support yourself financially and can document that, then you should be granted a permit that enables you to live here.

If as a single person you have an income of less than Fr. 19'050.-- per annum or as a couple (combined income) Fr. 28'575.-- then the residence permit might not be granted.
