Taking my cat on plane

Hello there,

I am looking at taking my cat with me on a flight from zurich - anyone know what is needed ?

I got to know that I must have a certificate (plus the ID of course) is this available from any vet ? if you know any in the central swiss I will appreciate it!

Thank you

Zanzino there are many threads already discussing international travel with pets. Do a bit of a search, you'll likely find your questions have already been asked and answered.

To get you started, though, see the BLV's online tool:

http://blv.bytix.com/plus/dbr/default.aspx?lang=en

This will largely show what you need in order to exit and return to Switzerland. What documents you need to gain entry to your destination country will depend on the country you are traveling to. Contact that country's equivalent of the BLV for that information.

If your destination is an EU country it's easy, the regs have been standardized.

But make sure you have the chip, the documents, and vacs needed to return, so start with the BLV.

Make sure your carrier is acceptable to the airline, and make sure you understand the airline's animal booking policies.

Your own vet should be able to fill out the documents (Swiss/Eu Heimtier Pass if within the EU) - unless your destination country requires a stamp from a vet designated as a cantonal officer. Again, we need to know where you are going to give you more information.

Also, you really should have put this in the Pets Section - perhaps you could ask a mod to move it so that more people with the information you are seeking will see it.

Gute Reise!
