Renewing an L after last year's quota cuts

Hi!

I am a non-EU currently on a L permit as of the beginning of this year. Like in most cases, my L expires at the end of the year and the renewing process, as far I understand, is "automatic" and done by my employer a few months before the expiry date.

My question is, since there was the quota cut on non-EUs last year, I wonder if there will be any impact on my L renewable (first year)? Does my employer again have to prove that they cannot find a Swiss/EU for the job?

Thank you!

A Non EU L permit is valid for 1 year and extendable for 1 more year and the employer does not have to prove that they cannot find a Swiss/EU person to do the job.

when the L permit converts to a B permit (normally after 2 years), then the employer has to prove this because a B permit is essentially a new work permit.

cheers

Thank you! I was a bit unsure since the immigration climate has gotten more stringent for non-EUs since the quota cut last December :-)

Re: Renewing an L after last year's quota cuts

Hi Tsang26!
Since we have a similar timeline in terms of WP, I would like to share with you my experience regarding the renewal of L. It was quite straightforward. You need to go to Kreibüro to get a prolongation form, they will fill in with your name etc, then you need to forward it to HR to get the company stamp. After that, bring back the form to Kreisbüro and pay 102.-
In my case, 2 weeks after that date I received a letter that said work permit renewal was approved (due to Article x and x, in the total 24 months). So now I'm waiting for the plastic card.
Upgrade to B permit is another story. My friend had to wait 3 months for the B permit and the company for sure had to do things in the background which she wasn't so sure of. So, next year I will make sure to apply for the upgrade very very well in advance.

Thanks so much for sharing!

Seems straightforward for the L renewal. I also read that the L to B renewal for non-EUs is a different story - will definitely have to prepare in advance next year

Re: Renewing an L after last year's quota cuts

hello guys

I have a similar condition and i need your help.
I had L permit in 2013 and renew it for one year through the employer as you said. This year we applied for a prolongation for one year and also the employer send all required documents. After we received the paper of acceptance we went to kreisburo and submited the papers (passport, permits) and payed the money.
Supposedly everything was fine until today i went to migration to check when will the new permit (i mean the plastic card) will be ready because i want to travel, the guy told me i can not give u a final answer before two weeks.
Actually i didn't understand him? do u think that after receiving the prolongation papers and submitting the papers in kreisburo they can change and refuse the prolongation?

I would appreciate any answer or info. thanks a lot
