Possibility of converting 'L' type permit to a 'B' type

Hi there,

I've attended couple of job interviews based in Switzerland. One company is happy with my profile and 'may' offer me a Permanent position (and process my 'B' type permit). However because of they have got recruitment freeze in place (which will be there for few more weeks), they have put my recruitment on hold.
I didn't want to be fully depended on this job, so started applying for few more jobs. and now one company wants to interview me for a Contract role for 6 months. They are ready to process my work permit (Which will be of 'L' type).

I'm in a state of confusion cause as per my understanding - It is not possible to convert 'L' type permit to a 'B' type. So supposed I get a Permanent job offer say after I finish this 6 months contract on 'L' permit and then get a Permanent offer (from an employer who is ready to sponser 'B' type permit), Would it cause any issues?

Regards,
Gem

You can apply for a B permit if you get a job with a contract of at least 12 months.

Having an existing L permit makes no difference to this other than reducing the amount of new documents you need to provide.

Hi Dilip,
First of all, be aware that you cannot apply for any permit by yourself. your employer has to do it.

regarding your situation, i very much doubt that the authorities will give you a L permit for a 6 months contract. As a NON EU, you are last in the job queue and the employer has to find that he could not find anybody in EU or Switzerland to do the job and the salary has to be high enough to justify that you really have some good skills which the employer cannot find elsewhere.

even if your employer manges to get a L, remmeber when the second employer tries to get a B permit for you, it will be assessed by the authorities as a fresh application which means the procedure is the same like a L permit. both permit cases have no gurantee of success as you are NON EU.

i think in your case it is better to wait for the employer who wants to apply for a B permit because L permit has its own problems in renting a house and getting an apartment, opening a bank account etc. search in the forum for similar threads and you will find lot of information about L permits for NON EU. there are lot of rules what you can/cannot do on a L permit, so life will be much easier if you have a B permit.

cheers

Thanks for the detailed reply, HappyCreature ! But as Richdog pointed out, I'm Not a Non-EU citizen. So your answer doesn't apply to me.

Thanks Richdog
