Swiss Fed Govt Holding 50% Non-EU Work Permits

Hello All,

All of us are aware that Non-EU B Work Permit 2015 quota is slashed to 2500 with 50% given to Kantons and the other 50% is held by Swiss Federal Government as Federal Reserve.

Curious to know the following:

1. To whom will the Federal Government issue the Work Permits that it has in its reserve?

2. Are the Work Permits equally distributed among all Kantons at start of every quarter?

Thanks in Advance.

Is it true? I thought all the non-eu prtmits have to be approved by the gov.

Re: Swiss Fed Govt Holding 50% Non-EU Work Permits

Yes, they do. All applications go first to the canton and then up to Federal.

It could be that some are held back for NGO's (UN, CERN, etc). I don't know how Ci permits, etc, are processed - whether it's the same as for normal permits i.e. via the canton also - or just straight from the Federal side.

In answer to question 2, no I don't think they're distributed equally because not all cantons need them in the same quantities. Zurich would obviously need more than Glarus for example.

Thanks Medea!!

My understanding is that the Governmental, UN, WHO and NGO type of jobs fall under Ci type of Work permits and NOT B permit.

Yes, but these groups also have D, E, L, I and P permit types too so they could fall into the quota limit numbers. See this link re CERN:

As said, it's just a guess on my part that this is what they've kept some back for.
