on a side note, I think SBB half price card entitles you a 25% discount on DB, at least that's what SBB travel office told me.

I was checked ID once on train back from Germany, and they only looked at my residence permit.

Re: Traveling to Germany without a passport. What to do?? EMERGENT!

If OP is real or a fake is not the question, rather if he has a point or not.

And he has. One cannot doubt that Switzerland, at least for security matters, is safer than other places, and Switzerland has no law that would force nationals or foreigners to carry ids (or - with regards to nationals - even to have one).

After all - and it's not just a bad omen - it was the Nazis to make it compulsory in Germany e.g., in the 1930ies.

But also from a point of view of security-lovers, statists, admins and neo-***s:

If all the States' institutions collaborated, why would one single id/license or whatever, if issued from a trusted agency, not suffice? You want to tell me - as an etatism supporter - that institutions don't function?

Plus, does anybody believe here that terrorists, professional criminals and folks like this would ever be anxious or unable to get faked ids?
