Swiss citizenship for my mother and myself?

My mother's family relocated to Geneva in 1985 as asylum seekers escaping the Cold War. My mother's family has lived in Geneva ever since and that entire side of my family are now Swiss citizens.

My mother was 15 at the time they arrived and at 19 she got married to my father, an American citizen and moved to America. She never completed the process to become a Swiss citizen, but we have visit Geneva nearly every year since I was born.

I was wondering if it is possible for my mother to apply for Swiss citizenship and for myself to apply as well? Both of us only have American citizenship at the moment. We live in the UAE at the moment so our contact would be the Embassy here. Thank you!

I'm afraid not. Neither of you fall into one of the facilitated naturalisation categories, nor do you meet the requirements for regular naturalisation.

Re: Swiss citizenship for my mother and myself?

I agree with Medea Fleecesteeler's opinion.

You mentioned that your mother came from another country to escape the Cold War. If this was an EU country, you might want to review whether you could apply for its citizenship based on descent. EU citizenship is valuable if you plan on living in the EU or Switzerland. Google on "citizenship by descent" for your mother's country of origin to determine if it's possible and practical to obtain.
