Did not de-register for L-Permit, still possible to return to Switzerland?

Dear all,

I was working in Zurich until March this year on a L-permit. Upon leaving the country I did not de-register at Stadthaus because honestly I did not know that this was required.

I recently received an offer from a different company in Switzerland to return to Zurich and will have to register to obtain a B-permit (I am living in the EU). However, I wonder whether I will run into difficulties upon my arrival when I register at a Kreisburo, given that I did not de-register earlier this year?

Thanks in advance for the information

I doubt it, though I guess you ought to inform your previous gemeinde. L permits expire automatically if you're out of the country for more than 3 months usually. Main things I can think of is did you manage to cancel your health insurance and other contracts before you left, you might still owe Swiss taxes, etc.

I assume you're an EU national and not non-EU. Otherwise the rules are different as far as hiring procedures go.

Thanks for the reply Medea Fleecestealer. I did not need to get Swiss health insurance as I applied successfully for exemption

If anything you'll get a fine I suspect. I know people in my gemeinde who have had fines of around 100chf for not registering on time and for not de-registering!

That would be unfortunate, but better than not being allowed to register at all. Thanks!
