Non-EU B Permit. Can I live and work in different cantons?

My apologies if this is a duplicate question, but I'm having trouble answering some questions definitively.

I am a non-EU citizen with a B-permit and currently live and work in Tessin/Ticino. I would like to move to a different canton (Zürich) to live, but will continue with the same job (I can work remotely). As far as I can tell, this is possible for EU citizens (and Swiss, obviously), but I haven't met any non-EU people who have done this.

I have many unanswered questions, so any relevant experience, pointers, links, etc. would be greatly appreciated:
- Is this allowable for non-EU B permit holders?
- Is there a distinction between B permits that are somehow tied to your employer or not? If so, how can I confirm which type I have?
- Does one have to apply to change residence, or simply move and inform the local offices?
- Has anyone (non-EU) here actually done this recently?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Re: Non-EU B Permit. Can I live and work in different cantons?

Canton Schwyz has a Merkblatt that addresses changing cantons for a non-EU B permit holder. The key point is that you will need to have a new B permit issued by the new canton. For details, please see section 1., especially the bolded last sentence in the section:

Re: Non-EU B Permit. Can I live and work in different cantons?

There is a similar document on Ticino's website, which I didn't stumble across before. From this page:
"Avvertenze per i cittadini stranieri che hanno richiesto un permesso di dimora (B)"
http://www4.ti.ch/index.php?id=18707

one can find this document:
"AVVERTENZE PER I CITTADINI STRANIERI DI "STATI TERZI" TITOLARI DI UN PERMESSO DI DIMORA ANNUALE (permesso "B") E PER I DATORI DI LAVORO"
http://www4.ti.ch/fileadmin/DI/Formu..._di_lavoro.pdf

This says that one must notify if moving to another canton, and also that the permit is invalidated if a permit is invalid in another canton. This implies, perhaps, that one can move to another Canton and retain employment in Ticino, but I will have to keep researching.

If so, how can I confirm which type I have? Yes..there is a distinction. Best would be to ask the cantonal office

- Does one have to apply to change residence, or simply move and inform the local offices? Move and inform local office

- Has anyone (non-EU) here actually done this recently?

Re: Non-EU B Permit. Can I live and work in different cantons?

Yes, it is possible. My understanding is that you need permission from both Zurich and Ticino cantons to do it though. The reason is you pay your taxes to the canton you live in, not the one you work in. Some cantons can be reluctant to "let you go" when they've been generous enough to grant you the permit in the first place. But if you can get permission from both Zurich and Ticino then you could make the move.

As for which type of B permit you have - tied or not - it says so on the back of the permit.

Be aware that the German tax authorities may consider you a Grenzgänger (despite not having that G permit nor a job) as you still have a residence in Germany. So check out that you will not have an issue having to pay taxes in both countries and or having issue with your (health) insurances.
