Can one apply for a C permit?

Hi,

Here's my situation. I've been here for six years now, living in canton ZH and was asked to renew my 'B' permit last summer. I filled out the relevant forms and sent them off , nothing to worry about from the police, Betreibungsamt, Sozialhilfe , always had a job, etc. One thing I was not clear on was the language requirement, I informed the Migrationsamt that I had taken a number of German courses some years back but I had not taken any exams as my the 'official' workplace language is English, all staff, all suppliers have to know it otherwise no business and I get by happily in German when I have to, outside of work. They asked for evidence of my studies so I sent them the course completion certificates. By return they sent me a 'B' permit, whilst I was expecting a C. Anyway, I have now got around to doing an exam and passed German B2 TELC. The question I have is can I now go back to the Migrationsamt with my shiny new quali and ask for a 'C' permit, or do I have to hang on until the summer of 2019? Any useful info much appreciated.

J

Thanks for the useful info... I guess I would have to go through the Gemeinde rather than the migration bureau?

Re: Can one apply for a C permit?

It's the same group, and the same form.

But it would make sense to check with them first, rather than apply and just gain a year on your B permit if they aren't satisfied!
