So you think my friend should tell them that she will live with me and 2 more people?
She has to.

Even Swiss people must.

If she is staying with someone as a guest, then she is not renting, she is recorded as a guest. That rental agreement is in someone else's name, so she won't need to take the rental agreement, she needs to simply declare who she is living with.
Almost correct.

Actually, it's the main renter who has to write a document stating that she is living there.

I had to do so when my Swiss girlfriend moved in.

true, just for accuracy this is not about foreigners, it's just considered the minimum living standard, permanent residents can actually get help to pay rent because of this. it's true that it makes things more difficult for people with precarious permits in certain cantons, but it's not common to find WGs where people share the bedroom in switzerland unless they are relatives.
Not all cantons have minimum space limits, in fact most do not.

Is it in her name?

If not, she needs the document from the person in who's name it is, as I described.

Re: Sharing apartment

It can be written by hand, but must be signed at the office (when they tell you to sign it).

It can also be done separately, i.e. the renter goes when they have time, and gives the signed document to the other person who goes when they have time, or both may go together.

In my girlfriend's case, I did the document, and she went another time.

Should she write in it that we share our apartment bills?

If your apartment doesn't fit with space requirements for foreigners, your permit can be revoked at any moment.
That the people living with you are your family members, is no help.
Foreigners in Switzerland have to respect - at least theoretically - mimimum requirements for their homes, i.e. number of persons minus one = minimal number of rooms.
If cantonal authorities have the resources to control this or if they just decide to overlook it deliberately, is up to them.

It's federal law on foreigners Art 27, Art 30, Art 46, Art 47. On foreigners, again.

What Cantonal authorities make of that rather vague "convenient housing" (i.e. "angemessene Unterkunft", "alloggio conveniente", "logement convenable") and how they handle with that, is another thing.

Anyhow, personally I would not publicly shout out loud that, as a foreigner, I live in tiny little ghettoid places.

The message is: If one is not sure that his place is standard, avoid precise answers with regards to that issue, if one can, to officials.

The other issue is salary. This one could be too low to get a permit.
If the salary is under Fr.1'900.-- I don't think the permit will be granted under any circumstances as it (the monthly income) is not enough for one person (who is single with no dependent children) to live off, officially! Whether someone actually does manage to get by on less than that, is another matter.

Don't they have studio apartments in Switzerland? (I.e. 1-1=0).

I know our apartment terrace counts for floor space on a "ponderated" (partial/weighted) basis. Maybe we could stick our grandson out there in a tent.

Oh, I forgot. He's a Swiss citizen. They could put him the workhouse too I suppose. Except he's only 2⅓.

My uncle, a century ago, was more or less kicked out of Switzerland because he was the youngest of 12 and there was no more room in the Grisons mountains where he grew up. Or in the family house. He did well in NYC; better I think than the family he left behind with the goats. (His granddaughter went to MIT and was a USAF Officer.)

Re: Sharing apartment

I was told by the AMT Zug that I wont get a B permit as I am a subrenter/untermieter, and it implies you aren't really serious about trying to live in an area/kanton. so I think they now take it seriously - ie, they lokoed at my rental agreement and then said no to my application for a B permit.

I would appeal. It is not compulsory to rent a flat in Switzerland in order to acquire a residence permit. You can be moving in with someone, you could own property here etc. It should be the income that counts, not so much the other factors.
