Running a business with L permit (3rd country L permit )

Dear EFers,

My wife and I are living in Zurich for a year, I am working and we both got L permit because of the job I have.

Our second year is starting, again with L permit and my wife again can not work with this permit. It is stated in her permit that she can not work!

Do you know if she can start her own business? Is there a scheme which would enable her to have a small business and work?

Your input is highly appreciated.

Thanks

Baris

No, L permit dependent holders cannot be self-employed.

It's not that she can't work, it's that she needs to have professional qualifications and any employer has to meet certain conditions to be able to hire her. From the Foreign Nationals Act:

"Members of the family of a short stay permit holder (art. 26 OASA) do not have a right to gainful employment. The gainful activity is subject to authorization.

On admission, a request by the employer respecting the pay and conditions of employment customary in the locality and in the branch must be made. In addition, members of the family of a short stay permit holder (art. 26OASA) must have professional qualifications (personal qualifications, Art. 23 AuG).

as far as I know, L-permit holders cannot be self-employed, not even B-permit holders.

B dependent permit holders can I believe, but they have to get permission from the Swiss authorities to do. That means having a good business plan, sufficient funding, etc to present to show the business will be viable.
