NewBorn Child Registration and Passport - Indian

Hi, We are Indian nationals and expecting baby this month in Zurich. We would like to know if we need to register new born in Indian Emabssy for applying passport , as we'll be going back to India in the June 2016.


Aplogies if this is already discussed in some other thread, but i couldn't find one.

Normally, yes. Consulates can arrange for passports for citizens living abroad. Check with the embassy/consulate for details and make sure to pay attention to the expected time needed to request the passport so that you don't make it a last-minute thing.

Thanks. On website, it is mention that, you need to register within 1 year, but as we are going back in 6 months, it is not clear.

anyway thanks, I'll call Embassy and check .

If you want your baby to travel it'll need a passport. Register the birth asap so you can get it all organised in time for your departure.

Yes your baby should have passport to travel back to India or any country which is also proof that its your baby with birth certificate

You have to send birth certificate and permit (if exist already, there is possibility that you would get permit before passport) offcourse parents passports with filled application form to embassy

C. Registration of Birth of a Child
(along with issue of a passport to the child)

CHF 83.00 [CHF 36+CHF47]

Documents needed Nos.1, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 11,12 & 13.

1. Prescribed application form duly filled in and signed.

3. (i) Bank Payment Receipt in original with Embassy's UBS Acount No. CH 82 ...
(ii) Consular surcharge amount CHF 2.- is to be made in Embassy's UBS Account No. No: CH 39 ... and original receipt attached to the application.

4. In the case of a new born child, Passports of both the parents are to be sent original with copies.

6. In the case of a Child : Birth Certificate of the Child in original plus 2
photocopies.

7. Four (4) recent and identical passport size (5.1X5.1 CM) photographs.

8. Photocopy of Residence Permit/proof of Indian address (If ration card is submitted, it should be accompanied by one more proof like Water/Electricity Bill, Pan Card).

11. In the case of a child, declaration from parents that the child is currently living with them in Switzerland and that the child has no other Travel Document.

12. For all miscellaneous services, one photograph is to be pasted properly in the box provided in the application form (Page 1). Application form will not be accepted without photograph of the applicant.

13. Self addressed stamped return envelope ( for Registered Mail).

Ok, so birth registration with Indian embassy is also mandatory to get Passport. We have started process for Birthcertificate, but as per latest communication with Zivilsandsamt, it'll take around 3-4 months, so ca is there any altenate document be used instead of Birthcertificate.

I think you can ask for temporary birth certificate in the meanwhile, with that you can apply for passport

Thanks , this is really helpful, i'll check with Zivilsandsamt, because passport will also take 4-6 weeks.

I thought new born babies could travel to india with mothers passport. It is better to check with Indian Embassy.
