i need some information for my friend, he is married to swiss girl and living in zurich for more than 3 years , now he want to move to geneva for work and start living there but his wife cant move with him because she is studying and working in zurich. but he is afraid if he move to geneva there will be a problem for him to applyfor his C PERMIT. I want to know is true if you change the Canton the government make problem for the permit.

For permission C its no problem.

BUT, when the Frau moved cantons she got ***d on her passport application. You cant change Kantons or you will have to restart the process to gain your Swiss passport. In ZH its 3 years and in AG its 5 years etc. If you move from ZH after 2 years then you have to restart from the scratch in the new community.

My Wife was born and raised in the DDR and moved to CH about 15 years ago. Is that what your refering to? So she is not officially Swiss. And she got screwed when we moved. She now has to wait till 2010 for her Swiss passport.

Changing cantons is not a problem to get your C-Permit. I changed twice over the past 5 years, and still got it. It might be a good idea that before you leave you ask for your Betriebung [debts extract] and Sozialhilfebezug [it certifies you have no social contributions missing]. You might be asked for this by the authorities when applying for a new permit. As discusses in this thread:
