Police clearance certificate for family reunification

Hello,

I recently got married and my wife is from India. She has submitted all her documents for a family reunification visa at the Embassy of Switzerland in New Delhi, India.

Now, do I need to submit a 'Police Clearance Certificate' for her here (in Zurich) or is it not mandatory ?

Are there any exceptions of people who have not submitted it here in Zurich recently? From what I hear, I get a different answer depending to whom am I talking to.

Thank you in advance!

You will receive a letter from Migrationsamt requesting some extra documents. They might ask for PCC. In my case they asked for it.

I would advise applying PCC at passport seva kendra. It should not take long.

Re: Police clearance certificate for family reunification

The list of documents required for processing the entry visa-D for family reunification purposes can be found from the below URL:

https://www.vfsglobal.ch/switzerland...doc_220115.pdf

Almost at the end of the pdf file, you can see "The Embassy reserves the right to ask further documents if necessary" and hence police clearance certificate (PCC) might be one of those documents which may be asked depending on the applicant and the processing officer. However it is not usual to forward it in the point of application (in your case, New Delhi).

You would have to forward the PCC in Zurich Migrationsamt office along with a list of other documents like work contract copy, rental contract copy etc. Immigration authorities in Switzerland almost always like to have all of the relevant documents on hand before making a decision. Hence start working on getting a PCC for your spouse since it will be required soon. If you don't have the PCC ready by then, expect further delays in the visa processing.

FYI, a detailed description of the different steps involved for the family reunification visa-D is given in an earlier EF thread:

Dependent visa, Permit B for spouses wanting to reunite with family in Switzerland

Re: Police clearance certificate for family reunification

Thank you very much for the information! Looks like its better to have PCC. We will try to get the PCC as soon as possible and send it the migration office.

Also any estimate on the amount of time it takes to make the decision ? I have few people who tell me 2 weeks and few who tell me it took like 12 weeks!

Re: Police clearance certificate for family reunification

If it has already been a week or so that your wife forwarded all the required documents for visa processing in the New Delhi Embassy, visit or call the Migrationsamt office in Zurich (Berninastrasse 45; 043 259 8800) to check on your wife's application.

Once you have the list of documents required from your end for further processing (which will most probably include the PCC), forward them at your earliest. Your wife could get the entry visa in 2 weeks or 12 weeks depending on how fast you submit these supporting documents. Good luck!

We didnt require a PCC but always better to have extra papers ready than to rush about later. The time varies depending entirely on whether they want any more documentation from your side.

Time also varies if there are x-mas or summer or school vacations nearby . IMO expecting dependent visa in less than 4 weeks in not realistic.

Re: Police clearance certificate for family reunification

After living here 3 years, we got the request for a PCC / FBI clearance letter. If you are in the Zurich area, the only place for fingerprints (unless you can do them yourself) is in Winterthur. Appointment only, CHF 60.00 cash.

Migrationsamt received the FBI response the beginning of February and we didn't receive our Ausweis cards until beginning of April. (8 weeks or so.)
