Mailing personal items from abroad to CH - form 18.44
Hi, I'm in the process of moving to Zurich and am shipping a bunch of boxes of personal goods via the post office (from the US - per the excellent advice from 'abartzi' that I found in another thread). I will only have 5-6 large boxes so this is the easiest and cheapest way to get them to Zurich. (And yes, I already have a long-term visa and permanent residence established and registered with the kreisboro. I am official; I just need help with the mechanics of mailing these boxes.)
I'm confused about the Swiss customs form 18.44.
Do I physically attach one of these forms to each box that I'm mailing to Zurich?
For each form, I notice there's a section that talks about if this is a "complete importation" or partial. Since each box won't be all my stuff (there's six boxes), do I need to mark each form as partial and reference the others?
And if so, it asks about the previous document number. Do I just make up a number to put at the top of each 18.44 form (there's a place for it) and then that's how I reference the previous document?
Ugh I feel like I'm overthinking this but at the same time I don't want to risk any of my personal goods not making to my home or, worse yet, being returned to the US.
The 18.44 form is not super clear and, more importantly, doesn't come with detailed instructions to help you fill in all the blanks. So any tips would be greatly appreciated....
