Student Visa still pending

Hi, I would like to know if this is normal or if it happened to anyone else in this forum. I applied for my student visa for Lucerne since April 2016, but until now I haven't heard any feedback from them. I have constantly updated my status after the 6-8 weeks processing time, but their automatic reply is that the visa is still pending. I have asked them as well what's the reason for the holding up, but no answer given. Is this normal? Or should I start getting worried about it. My master studies will start on September, so I still have time., but it's taking so much time.

Any personal experience or advice on what to do and how to properly update the visa wll be highly appreciated.

Thanks a lot.

Katrina

Re: Student Visa still pending

Why not go there and ask them? But before the middle of August, the place might be empty.

Re: Student Visa still pending

Is it okay to personally go and update the visa? If there's no problem with that then maybe I can go there next week. Btw, I don't live in Switzerland, though I have a valid schengen visa expiring on 2018. Thanks for the reply

Showing up in person wont help.

Check with your school if they can ask on your behalf.

Re: Student Visa still pending

I asked Uni of Luzern about it, but they told me they can't do that. The only thing they can help is to provide documents just incase the migration office needs it. The waiting game is just very frustrating and getting a one sentence reply is just sad, not knowing what's really up.

Silly me I assumed you were in Luzern. In this case I would wait until middle of August before travelling to Luzern.

Re: Student Visa still pending

Have you asked the Swiss embassy/consulate where you're living to contact them and find out what's the situation? Sometimes paperwork gets filed and forgotten. And anyway you'll need to know so you can get your Type D visa at the embassy/consulate to be able to enter Switzerland long term legally.

Re: Student Visa still pending

Hi! Yeah I did. I sent them an email almost every week just to ask them how the status of my visa is. The embassy keeps on replying that it's still on process. And asked me to contact directly the migration office of Luzern. So that's what I started doing as well. Called them and emailed them, but the reply is the same. I was thinking maybe they have forgotten about it, but I was calling them and emailing them almost every week so I'm hoping it's really under process.

Re: Student Visa still pending

It's not clear where you're from, but some countries seem to get extra scrutiny and take more time to process.

Maybe try a different tactic? If you're calling and emailing every week, you might be annoying some paper-pusher who decides to put you on the bottom of the stack. I know, you're just wanting an update - but in my experience the Swiss prefer to take a "don't call us, we'll call you" approach.

Wait at least 10 business days from your last contact, and then instead of asking what the status is, offer to provide any additional documentation to support your application. Good luck.

Re: Student Visa still pending

Hi! Thanks for the reply. I'm from the Philippines but I'm working in Oman right now. Since there's no embassy of Switzerland here in Muscat, I submitted my documents thru Embassy of Switzerland in Riyadh KSA.

Okay, I will try that. I will wait till mid of August the latest. Hope I hear good news from them soon. 🙏🏻 thanks again

Re: Student Visa still pending

It took around 3-4 months to get mine. And this required the university contacting the embassy about the delay. Turned out that the visa had actually been granted in around 2 months, but whoever was in charge of mailing it back to me must have forgotten!

Re: Student Visa still pending

Did you finally get your visa?
I applied for mine end of May for HSLU also Lucerne Canton.
I heard they are busy hence the delay.
But school starts in 4 weeks, and I still don't even know if I will be able to attend.

Have you checked with the uni/cantonal migration office? Most Swiss have been on holiday the last 3 weeks, but it can't hurt to do a quick follow up to see what's happening.

Re: Student Visa still pending

I contacted the school and the international office is on holiday till September 12th....
I have been trying to contact the Migration office directly but their hours and my time zone was difficult since I am in New York...
I am trying today though. Hope to be able to know soon.
Thank you!

Re: Student Visa still pending

Hi! I'm happy to share that finally my visa has arrived. After 4 months of waiting and updating, finally they sent me a copy of my entry permit and embassy already told me to submit my passport as soon as I am free.

I suggest you make contact with the migration office of Kanton of Luzern. And tell them of your situation (long wait). It might help.

Re: Student Visa still pending

Hi!

Thank you all for the replies. I followed the advice and contacted the migration office in Zurich and they sent a copy of the Einreiseerlaubnis which is what the consulate needed to stamp the visa. I finally can travel to Zurich at the beginning of September and start my studies. I hope it will all be soon resolved for everyone else that is waiting to hear!
