Any problems with changing canton few months after coming?

Brother (old EU, permanent contract) staying with me and got his 5 year B permit in Zug.

In the meantime he got health insurance, bank account the whole thing with the Zug address.

After a few months of looking my guess is that he will find a flat in Zurich and go through all this again.

We're discussing any potential pitfalls from changing cantons so soon:

1) By searching the forum my understanding is that canton Zurich will give him a 5 year B permit automatically as well without fuss.

2) All insurances and bills will need to change address but no major issues. Health insurance provider exists in both cantons, just premium expected to go up.

3) For C permit the time will start from the day he is in Zurich and for the next 5 years, time in Zug won't count.

4) Obviously tax will be worse in ZH but that's not an issue for him.

Is there any major disadvantage if he goes through all the trouble of registering everything here and moves to another canton in 6 months and do it all over again? Any big thing we're missing?

By searching forum, seems more like a hassle and no major issues.

I thought the time in ZUG would count for a C permit, has anything recently changed?

No, except for the cost of getting a new permit in Zurich.

No. The time in Zug on a B permit will count towards the C.

You are right, it counts towards even better then.

So no negatives?

It depends on your perspective vis-à-vis paying more Gebühren. If you like paying them, then there are only positives!

Re: Any problems with changing canton few months after coming?

No negatives, except the tax implication!!

Personally contemplating moving the other way, to Zug, for tax benefits.... but suspect I would not stay there long enough for the tax authorities not to see it as 'tax evasion', rather than just sensible planning. Should have researched tax differences of Cantons more before moving here
