time to process permit for a partner? (ticino)

So I have my entry visa for Ticino, coming from the US. (Presumably on a B permit since I'll have a 2-year contract.) On November 28 we applied at the consulate for a permit for my partner to join me. We'd like to go over together during the first week of January, and I'm wondering how likely it is that we'll have a visa by then.

They said his permit will take 6-8 weeks, but they said mine would take 8-10 weeks and it actually took less than 4.

Has anyone else done a domestic partner visa through Ticino or any other canton? Any idea how long it will actually take?
