Ok here is the deal. My parents are both Swiss I was born and raised in America. I have looked at some websites that say if you dont register by 22 you have until 32 if you have a good reason. I am now 33 and according to these web sites you can move to Switzerland and get your citizenship reinstated that way. Does anyone have any experience in these matters?
How long might this take? Are there any horror stories? Any advice would be appreciated.
Also off the subject a bit if i am able to reinstate my Swiss citizenship I would like to work for the police does anyone know if these is an age cut off?

I am quite suprised that your parents never registered you for citizenship. I wish you the best of luck with your endeavour to re-establish your heritage.

Nearly every police force here has a cut-off age of 35, and past experience (ie. police experience in another country) is not recognised.

You are best off getting in touch with the local Swiss consulate/mission. Take as much documentation relating to your parents as you can. Knowing the Swiss however, they are sticklers for the rules. Cut offs are rarely negotiable.

*If* I read this correctly it says, that if you can establish the Swiss nationality of your parents and if you are aiming to settle in Switzerland, you can get your citizenship back, no matter what deadlines you may have missed.

Swiss army service is a prerequisite (men) to work for the Swiss police.

But you are now past the army conscription age. So they may suspect you postponed application to avoid military service. That makes the authorities unhappy .
