Masters Student Residence Permit

Hello everyone!

I am moving to Lausanne in 3 weeks to do a Masters Course. I have been informed that because I am an EU citizen (British), the best way for me to apply for a residence permit is to take the appropriate documents (letter of acceptence, letter from my parents saying they will support me, and passport), to the town hall/ Commune de Canton de Vaud when I arrive.

Are these the only documents that I will need to supply, and how long can I expect to wait for a residence permit (I gather that permits B and L are similar, but B is much better for renting etc)? My knowledge of French is quite poor, and the Immigration department are only supplying information in french!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
