I am expecting a job offer in Luzern in the coming weeks and THE key factor for making a decision is working out whether or not my girlfriend can also make the move with me.

My prospective employer will obviously be sponsoring my visa, but my girlfriend is unlikely to be sponsored considering she is only part-way through her teaching degree (was hoping to pick up part-time work in an international school administration or as a teacher's aid). She is very experienced in business administration (before starting degree) but not tertiary qualified yet...

I have read some info in your FAQ which was helpful but more clarification for those who understand this issue would be great.

It appears if we were married there would be no problem in her getting a visa to stay and work, but as a de-facto it may be difficult. The minimum we would require is a residence visa without work permit, but ideally we would be hoping to get a work visa for her as well...

Any thoughts or advice on how to go about this issue? The HR dept of the company I am going to are going to help too, but we would like to be on top of the situation ourself..

Maybe she can get admission to a Swiss University and qualify as student. Of course, that does not permit working.
