I will be visiting India soon and will need to obtain a tourist visa.

Can anybody tell me where I can get one of these in the Zurich area.

I think you can apply for a tourist visa only in Bern.

You should be able to obtain a visa by mail, depending on your citizenship. Should be very straightforward (once you pay the fee, of course). Call and ask before you go...will save you time and money.

correct. Only the embassy in Bern can issue a visa.

I went to India in March 2006 - the visa was issued at the Indian Consulate in Geneva

The last I checked the Consul General in Zurich is an honorary post (the gentleman is actually from Panama) - the actual consular section, which deals with visas, etc. is based in Bern or in Geneva.
