| Hi,
I have been leaving in Geneva since October 2005. I am working for a multinational company.I had a 1.5 year contract (Oct 2005-March 2007). I had an L permit for 1 year and it has been prolonged another six months until March 2007. However I have accepted a new permanent job and my company initially had told me that I could get a B permit. But now They tell me that my L permit had to be prolonged until the completion of 2.5 years which means another year with an L permit after March 2007 until March 2008) and then I will get automatically a B permit.
Can't I get a B permit immediately (at least after March 2007) since I have a proper permanent contract (and by the way the contract is a local Swiss package with pension fund)?

Very likely that the B quota has run out so therefore you have been awarded an L.

| By the way I am a non-Eu citizen.
Another question is can I have a local Swiss package holding an L-permit and benefiting from local Swiss pension fund (which is written on my contract). I cannot understand why I am still getting an L permit with a local Swiss contract? Can there be a mistake?
Many thanks for highlighting...

No mistake. A "local" contract does not require nor guarantee accession to a B permit.
