Changes to Work/Resident permits rules

Hi,

I was under the impression that the permit 'thing' would cease in June 07 and that after that quotas would not be enforced unless the Swiss government decided to re-introduce due to a huge influx of foreigners.

I don't suppose anyone would know if those with L permits would then be 'upgraded' to B permits on application?or if there is even a requirement for permits after June/July?

Re: Changes to Work/Resident permits rules

just the quota system for EU passport holders is effectively no longer in operation later this year. I'd speculate that after that date, B-EU permits will be issued with 5 year validity. All-in-all, I would not worry about things if I was an EU passport holder.

Thanks LR, that's the take I had on it too. Simplifies things for EU passport holders a bit.

Re: Changes to Work/Resident permits rules

EU "B" should be 5 year now, but the quota has run out.
"L" permits (like we have) will be upgraded when they expire - not in June.

As Lob, said, it mostly makes no practical difference...

Re: Changes to Work/Resident permits rules

Will this have any effect to the new 10 EU members (since 1.5.2004) ? As I have heard that the above said things can apply only to the old EU 15 not to EU 25... (although today it is already EU 27)...

I have heard that something might get changed since the first validation should take place on June 2007... but the new members we should be undergoing the quotas until 2011.

Does anyone know something more about it?

Re: Changes to Work/Resident permits rules

Is it not possible to apply before the permit expires as I am already being penalized for only having an L permit. Not in a big way but just the same it's annoying.

Unfortunately not. Like many other Swiss government websites, they tease you with English on the main pages, but stick to D/F/I when it comes to the details.

Well, no problem... I will ask my friends and teacher to help me out with the basic info from this file... anyway it will surely be helpful ... since i have downloaded plenty of materials but not all of them were useful...

Ok, what about if you have a B permit for only two years but are a EU national? My contract now runs longer than my B permit, can I now extend it and get a 5 year EU-B permit? Or do I also need to wait until it expires?

I found a page on the official site with the details in German but don't get the jist of it:
http://www.bfm.admin.ch/bfm/de/home/...ende.0004.html
Quote:

PS That pdf on the rules for new EU countries has disapeared but here is the html version:

This could depend on where you live. Go to your Gemeinde, present your B-Permit, and ask that question.

I was in ZH when this worked for me. Handed over my B permit, computer printery noises, new photo, got back the 5 year B. The guy even said no charge at the time - but I got a 50 CHF bill later

A friend from Bern did the same and was told to wait until the renewal and when it came up it was backdated to the start of the original B so he only had a year or so to 'serve'.

This is so frustrating. I have a postdoc position for 2 years with a major pharma company in Basel and I now have to keep the L permit untill May 2008??? I tried to get a mobile phone today and Orange wanted 1000CHF deposit (not helpful when trying to save for an apartment kaution and furniture)
