If one is a British citizen and one gets a job in Zurich, does the residentcy Permit start when you register in your local town hall or when you start your job? If for example one got the permit in October 2008 but agreed with the employer that he would start work on January 1 2009. If someone needs a few months to settle into Zurich. thanks

If I recall it's effectively a date set by the authorities when you get your work permit. You then have 8 days once you arrive in Switzerland to register. It's not tied to your work start date.

You can stay in switzerland without a permit for 3 months as a tourist. And if you stay a little longer, I do not think the officials will knock down your door to drag you back to england. The swiss are strict, but not as bad as that, I should think.

If someone gets a job here in October 2008 and agrees with the employer to start in January 2009. Employer gets the residency in Novmeber 2009, one registers in Novemebr....i.e. one would like to be here as a resident from Novmber 2008. Is it possible?

hi i just got married in france while on a tourist visa and then i came here as i have a months visa for swiss . My husband and i went to the local town hall and registered here and the lady said said to me that i did not need a visa to travel back to my country India once i get the papers. What i dont understand is that they had told us that i had to go out of the country for 2 months and now i dont need to and secondly once i get the papers i will not need a visa on my passport in case i go out of the country and want to come back. So the ques is how long will it take for the permit or residency papers to come? and will i not need a visa if incase i go to india for a visit and come back here? My husband is a french and has been here for 2 years on a work permit.

You will not need a visa as your permit (B?) will act as one. If you leave, then come back to switzerland, you will only have to show your permit. That's it. No visas needed.
