| | | Daughter completing school. What about a work permit?
Hi all
Hope someone can help, just been talking about my daughter who will finish the swiss school in a couple of years and look for a apprentership
We all came here with my husband on b permits through his job
so how will this work for my daughter will she have to get a work permit of her own when she leaves school, or as she has had her education here will she not need one, just thought i would ask if anyone knowes the answer here first
Thanks Dawn

From rhe post's title....
Perhaps after finishing school, you could consider Finishing School to further her prospects.
"Switzerland is known for its private finishing school"

Thanks Dawn | | | | | Surely your daughter already has a B permit? Same as yours and your partners?
Also, don't forget this will be automatically promoted to a C permit after 5 years.
Also don't forget that your daughter's years in Switzerland count double for the requirement for a Swiss passport.
In a nutshell, don't worry about it.

Another angle (but one which you would need to check) is that an apprenticeship is still education not merely work. As such, it might be easier to get approval for that anyhow even if Swissbob's angles don't apply.
As long as your child is under 18 it is not an issue as the Swiss authorities consider them dependent, after that it's a different ball game....

I don't think there was anything wrong with the title of the post and I, for one understood the OP's question completely. Did you?

This also goes for your immediate dependants.

Thanks for your help Dawn | | | | | If you are applying for Swiss Citizenship then she would apply at the same time otherwise she can apply independantly at 16 (I think) s long as the minimum 'time served' has been achieved. I have twins in a very similar situation and at the same age.

If you apply for a swiss passport for your daughter then you should know that all the years she's spent here from 11-19 count as double. You need to be in Switzerland for 12 years to apply for the passport.

Don't worry Dawn, if these people only knew what many of us think OF THEM for their stupid, mean and useless comments, they would no longer post.

Dear Swissdawn,
As has been mentioned before, your daughter has her own B permit because of your husband's. That is why she's able to attend a swiss school without any problems. She will also be able to apply for an apprenticeship on a B without any problems, although individual employers might be difficult about it, there is no official obstruction.
Anyway, once you've been in the country for five years the B permit should easily turn into a C.
In my case, my older son did an apprenticeship, then a BA and has just started his MA; all with a C permit. Neither of my sons has taken Swiss nationality because of the Army requirement, and they have never had any trouble having "just" a B then a C permit.
Once they turned 18 and were still resident in the country the C permit became theirs, ie: not dependant on their father's. Although this may have been due to them having 17/18 years of residency under their belts at the time.
This might be of interest; he hasn't had to pay university fees.
For his first degree he was covered by my husband's tax payment record for the years prior to the beginning of the course (even though we had left Switzerland to live in France by then), for the second one he's covered by his own tax record, as he's worked for the last two years and paid his own taxes.
You'll find plenty of youngsters in the same position as your daughter, don't forget that Switzerland is a country full of immigrants.
Her main problem will be the tough competition for a particular apprenticeship; they're very popular. Just make sure that her french or german is up to scratch, speaking english will be a very useful extra.
Anjela
