Residence Permit in Process

Hi everyone,
Im currently waiting for my residence permit which I applied for in the context of getting married at the local commune where my fiance and future in laws live.I also registered myself as a resident there as I'm on a visitor's visa and I received an "attestation de residence" from the commune. I was informed that my residence permit would arrive in one month.
The thing is that it's been 6 weeks that I've been waiting for any news from the commune and my fiance's mum called and the lady who took charge of this told her that sometimes it takes up from one to six months. Its fairly unacceptable by me as my boyfriend and I are stuck in the middle of this whole waiting process and we can't go forward with any arrangements with the commune because of this.Another thing that struck me was that,if my residence permit is being processed wouldn't the commune send me some sort of letter that says it's in process? Please give me some advice!!! Thanks!!

Re: Residence Permit in Process

hello vanilladream

It does take some time to get these things processed; and there is no way around (try to read up related posts on the forum and you will get a feel for it ).

I think while it is being processed; you could get a letter saying so. But what will you need it for ?

stay patient and it will eventually arrive in your mailbox

I am actually surprised to see that you were able to register as a "resident" on a visitor visa? was not aware that one could do so.

Thanks Neerahi for your advice.I know I've got to be patient .I was just thinking that I might need the letter saying thats its in process in case out of the blue someone checks my passport or something.I dont know maybe I'm just being paranoid. Yes,you can apply for a residence permit if you are on a visitor's visa as you are sponsored by somebody in Switzerland. It's a gruelling process before I could obtain it as they ask alot of questions and you also have to show some sort of proof that you're in constant contact with your sponsor(phone bills, emails, etc)

Re: Residence Permit in Process

The "attenstation of residence" is a pretty useful document. I received one and stayed with it for about 2 months while renewing my residence permit. You can travel in and out of the country with that, when you show it to the immigration police they will not make a beep.

Re: Residence Permit in Process

My husband and I had a similar experience in Zurich. We were told that it would take one month. After one month I went to discuss the permits with the Kreisburo and they were fairly defensive saying it could take 6 months. We finally got ours after about 8 weeks. Be patient, the Swiss are not very happy to be pressured.

Re: Residence Permit in Process

I was in at the Migrationsamt today, things are quite backed up in general.

Not to discourage anyone, but I applied for a B permit (had an L) at the end of May, and it still isn't processed yet.

Also, word of "warning" I was told that if my application wasn't processed before Dec 14, I would have to start the process all over again, as they are changing all the paperwork/application process.

Good luck to all stuck in the system!

The hold up is probably at the Canton level, not the Commune of Montreux. The Canton de Vaud has one of the highest levels of visa applications to process in the country. All applications are passed from the Communes to the Canton for review. You would be very lucky to get your permit in Vaud within six weeks and a wait of 4 to 6 months is not unusual. There's nothing you can do to speed it up and you aren't alone. These are loads of posts on this forum from people who have waiting months and still not received their visa.

Re: Residence Permit in Process

Yeah,I do understand how the application process works.Im registered in Grandvaux, not Montreux. It takes quite sometime as from what I've been told, its just that after 6 weeks I expected that they might call to announce something about the permit instead of keeping me waiting with no answer.Thank you anyways for your help.
