How to bring my wife and my baby to Switzerland

Hi EFers,

Now my wife is pregnant and still stay in my home country. We probably have a birth in June, 2009. After having a birth, I have a plan to bring my wife and my small baby to Switzerland. However, now I am just PhD candidate at ETHZ and being grossly paid 59400 Fr (annual) as Research Assitant. I wonder with this salary whether Swiss goverment allows me to bring my family to here? In case, they require a financial statement, how much money do I need in my bank account to guarantee I have a capability to support my wife and my baby living in Zurich.

Thanks a lot in advance for any reading and help!
MSMC

Re: How to bring my wife and my baby to Switzerland

Can I suggest that your best point of contact is the swiss consulate general / embassy in Vietnam ?

They will understand what procedure you need to take and whether it's possible to arrange things for your wife and child...

The immigration authorities do check your contract etc, but I don't believe it was a big issue for them about wife/children.

The priority for them is that you are being paid no more or less than a local worker would in the same job...

Best wishes, I know it's a hard/busy/stressful time...let us know how things go! - we brought our three children including an 8 month old, and it's been great so far!

Many thanks Swisspea!
I will do as you suggested. Any progress will be updated.
