Do I need a visa to visit the EU countries

Hello!!
I just found out about this site 2day.

I have a question, I am of a non EU national holding a permit C in switzerland , do foregners with resident permits in CH still require visa to visit the neighbouring EU countries ie france , italy etc, for a weekend or few days.

well some people i know they have that permiss, but also all depend of what passport you have...

Yes you need a Schengen visa but since you have a C-Permit, you can apply to any of the Schengen member embassiers in Switzerland.

Hello. Glad to see this topic being discussed. I am in a similar situation and need a bit of clarification. I hold a non EU passport and am a permanent resident of the US.

I will be moving to Switzerland in April. There is a good possibility I will marry my Swiss boyfriend. So I assume marriage entitles me to a B permit. How long does it take to get the B permit from the time we're married?

Secondly, with a B permit, I still need a visa to travel to all the EU countries. Can I apply for the necessary tourist visas through the embassies in Bern? Or do I have to go back to the US and apply in person there?

Finally, I've read on this thread that by 2008, borders will be lifted and Schengen visas will no longer be required. Does this apply to B permit holders as well?

I'm afraid I can't help with the other questions, but for this one, once you are resident in a particular country, there should be no problem applying for visas through the relevant embassy. I have applied for many visas in my various countries of residence and there has never been a problem!
