Would anyone know of a studio or shop where we could get a passport photo of our baby?. We tried the booths but it got returned as it was too light (very difficult to hold baby with no hands showing in the right place).

we went to our local apotheke and yeah it was hell both times

took something like 40mins to get a decent photo - they were VERY patient which was lucky

of course it doesn't help that Australian passport photos and Swiss passport photos are different sizes so they had to fiddle around with their setup a bit

if only they accepted digital photos printed out yourself (whcih Australia won't) as i can take a better photo myself than those cameras so don't think that you can get around it that way - check on the regulations of the country for which your applying for the passport

We got at a photo shop, it has to be done very patiently we had to give 6 attempts before we got something close to acceptable specification, the cost could be something around 25 CHF. Our Kreisbüro directed us to one such photo shop close to it.

We took our own for Spanish and US passports and for Swiss permits. Easy to tweak the backgrounds in Photoshop to get exactly what the different countries require.

Thanks for the reply, we tried but cant get the sizes right for UK passport on our photo printer. We`ll try the local Apotheke and if they can`t hopefully they will suggest somewhere.

just make sure you take the photo size specs with you so they have a chance to match it up with the photo - that way you increase your chances of going away with a useable photo

And if you still don't have any luck in Basel, there are photo houses just over the border here in Lörrach that do a good job.

For my 2 babies i took a normal photo of them lying on the floor, on a blanket (make sure you are not to close) then had 2 copies made and used another passport photo of me and put this on top of the my baby photo`s head cut round it and sent it off, no hassel, cost next to nothing and no problem with having them accepted on there Uk, and Swiss passports

For my baby daughter's passport photo, it didn't even matter that her eyes were closed...

Sillier still was the passport itself. It was a German childrens' passport, which contains such useful information as eye colour (which was handy since her eyes are closed in the photo) and height (which was valid for about a week).

The site contains a list of professional studios. Select the one close to your place. If the consulate has some special requirements, print and taje them with you. The studios will normally ask you for the country for which Visa/Passport is required.

We tried in MISTER MINIT once, but the baby was moving too much, so in the end did it ourselves at home (1 out of many shots, behind should be white) and printed at home.
Some embasies or regis. offices can be too demanding and complain by the way.

We had our first one done in a good photo shop in minutes. A newborn does not have to have eyes open or be sitting up... they wont be recognizable by their photo in a month anyway... But digital camera home printed photos are not accepted by most EU countries, as far as I know.

Got ours done in the photographic shop roughly opposite the large Coop in Clarastrasse. They know all the formats for various countries so you simply have to say which country it is for. They lie baby on the floor (and can prop the head if baby is a bit older and constantly swivelling head about) and then Mum can stand behind the photographers' shoulder and wave whatever so baby looks up. Got ours done first take there.

Been back last year for further photos for French passport with our son who finds going for something like a haircut or photos very challenging, and they were patience personnified. In the end they got a photo which had one of my hands in it, so photoshopped that out. Got passport and ID card no problem.

Ditto the recommendation. The way did it was to take a CD along with a few hundred photos of NickJnr lying on a grey cloth - they then picked out a suitable one using their expertise and knowledge of all the different formats. The photo they picked was fine for both UK and NL passports.

The shop near Aeschenplatz recommended by the Dutch consulate was no good - the photograph they picked got rejected :-(

The best possible way is to take the picture in the comfort of your home, change the background colour (with a free software like GIMP?), and resize to the required format with the free epassportphoto.com service. You could then print this in any kiosk

I (we) have JUST done ours.
Did it using iPhoto and a bit of faffing over about 30 mins to get the picture, and the same for editing/re-sizing it.
It seemed ok to me and fit the requirements, so we sent it off.
2 weeks later her first UK passport arrived!

Plus, we printed off 100's of copies (to fill up the photo paper) so they went into the 'Thank you' cards for all the Christmas prezzies!!
