Work Permit B still under process and want to travel outside Swiss

Hello Members,

So I have a very peculiar situation.

My L work permit got expired on 25th Feb 2009 and my company filed for the extension of it. But the great Swiss Immigration still havent processed it, as they are seeking some justifications from my contracting company.

So at the moment I dont have a work permit, fortunately I am still allowed to work.

I will get a B permit now, as my L Permit was for 2 years.

And I have plans to travel outside Switzerland from April 8th to 22nd to USA.

I asked the Immigration office for Re-entry Visa, but there system doesnt allow to issue me the same, as my work permit is still getting processed.

So is there any way I can travel outside SwissLand and come back from USA.

I still have 15 more days to decide, and as I have already booked the air tickets which are bloody non-refundable / non-postponable. I cant claim back any money for the airtickets too.

Life is hard

Thanks Everyone

Re: Work Permit B still under process and want to travel outside Swiss

I've had some ordeals with renewing work permits, and they asked me an interesting question.

They asked if i wanted to travel, because while the permit is being processed, I can obtained a 'special attestation' with a 'special stamp' from the Canton.

Its costs, but i'm sure it allows you in and out of the country while the permit is being processed.

Give them a call and ask if you can get this document. Sorry, not sure on details or 100% correctness because it didn't apply to me, so i didn't ask more details....

Re: Work Permit B still under process and want to travel outside Swiss

Iggy,

Thanks a lot for the reply.

But where should I go for this billion dollar "Special Attestation" and "Special Stamp" from the Canton.

I am not worried about the costs.

Where should I call ? Can you give me the details ?

Earlier, I went to the following office for Re-Entry Visa. ( It was refused, as they coudnt see my work permit in there system.)

Immigration Office of the Canton of Zurich.
Berninastrasse 45 8057 Zürich.

Cheers

Even if you think the OP uses odd adjectives sometimes, I'm not sure that your reply in this form was really necessary.

This is your second post. You haven't yet written an introduction. Your response to a question may be considered 'clever' but you haven't been around long either and sometime you may find yourself in need of information or help too. Let's hope other EFers have short memories and forget your reaction here.
By the way, Welcome to the Forum.

Hi Longbyt

Apologies. The original post is from a friend who works with me and he has mentioned his situation to me verbally. He obviously doesnt know my id on this forum so I was just taking the micky but sincere apologies to you, him and all forum members.

BTW - Introduction

I moved from London to Zurich a couple of years back and quite often read this forum. I should admit the forum is quite interesting and helpful. A lot of diverse range of members and subjects. Thanks to moderators like you - you make our lives easy.

All is forgiven!
Actually I'm not a Mod - just a member who likes to see fair play. It happens sometimes that 'insider' jokes get misunderstood - knowing the background as you explain it, your answer is quite funny; all the same, not knowing the background, it might put someone else off asking such a question, which would be a pity.
Am I forgiven too?

Hope the OP gets permission in some form or another.

True, true. I, too, was a Newbie last April.

I deliberately made it a bit ambiguous though as his profile gave no details.
'Haven't been around long' could mean age, could mean place (Switzerland), or could mean the Forum.
And all of us, even old hands, might sometime need help.
Pax?

And back on-topic now?

We had these whilst we were waiting for our permits to be processed. In French-speaking Switzerland it's called a 'lettre d'attestation', and I got them for all 4 of us from our commune (NOT canton) just by popping in and asking.

It's just a letter they print out and stamp with their official commune stamp, to prove that you are a resident in the commune. I used it for all sorts of things like joining the library, buying a train pass for my son, etc, and my husband was advised to carry his for his regular in-and-out of the country travel until his permit arrived.

Our commune doles them out for free, but I understand it's more normal to pay around 10 CHFs for one.

Re: Work Permit B still under process and want to travel outside Swiss

I am not sure same sort of attested letters work in German Part of Switzerland.
We need re-entry VISA and that is the only way out.
Any other options, please let us know.

Re: Work Permit B still under process and want to travel outside Swiss

Is there a last word on how this is to be done?

I have applied for a renewal of my permit today, thus surrendering the original L-permits. I need to travel to the UK in the first week of May. I was assuming that I would be able to get a re-entry visa, but the kreisbuero folks were not entirely confident that I might get one

Any suggestions? (BTW, I am from India, holding an Indian passport)

Re: Work Permit B still under process and want to travel outside Swiss

You need to go to the Immigration Office at Berninastrasse ASAP and get a confirmation that you can get a Re-Entry VISA.
If your WP is not approved and/or is not showing up in the Immigration Database they will not Issue the Re-Entry VISA to you..
The Other thing you need to do is pray..;-)

Yeah no matter what happens , you are stuck in this country if you dont have a valid work permit in the bloody system.

Wish you a good luck

PS:And for your information I am still waiting for my permit, its expired 1 1/2 months back. I was supposed to be in NY today and now I am sitting and relaxing at home in my easter holidays

Re: Work Permit B still under process and want to travel outside Swiss

I finally managed to get it done.. Stood twice in mile long queues though (Easter rush?). First time, they did not have my data (that my L was being renewed), but the next time, it was easy. Just a photo, and 93 SFr .

Applying for my UK Visa now!

Thanks for all the inputs!

Re: Work Permit B still under process and want to travel outside Swiss

Hello Mitu
I went trhough your situation and you cannot travel outside unless you have aapproved WP from authorties assuming you are non EU
Once you have the work permit you usually go to kreisburo to apply for the ausweis.

However while you get your new ausweis processed, you can go to immigrtaion dept. in berninaplatz in zurich to request a re-entry visa (multiple reentry) for 90 days for about 100 CHF based on your approved Work permit.

Unless you have a approved WP, going out of Swiss border is too risky without a reentry visa.

Re: Work Permit B still under process and want to travel outside Swiss

Hello everyone,

I am here again, with my permit still under renewal!

I have to make a trip to UK, and then immediately to India, in the next 6 weeks. Last time, i got a single re-entry visa (93 CHF)... Is it possible that I request for a multiple re-entry visa?

And does that multiple re-entry visa also permit travel in the Schengen?

Thanks!
