Birth Advantage for passport

Dear All

Can somebody throw light whether kids born for Non EU resident working on B permit have any advantage later on when they apply for immigration.

Do they have any right by birth in Switzerland

thanks and best regards

If you plan to stay here long-term and your kids go through the Swiss schooling system, it would certainly streamline the process if they have already satisfied the necessary residence criteria. However, as Shorrick stated, as an out-and out right by birth, None.

No. It just means that every time they need a newly issued copy of their birth cert for the rest of their lives they have to apply for it here, no matter where they are living. No advantage for citizenship, they have to be registered by their parents in their own consulate or embassy.

About birth certificate it is not 100% true, if you are Brazilian or Chilean for example, your kids will receive a new Birth certificate in those countries, and if they go to live there they will not need the swiss birth certificate never more.

Re: Birth Advantage for passport

Birth right = no

Open Application process, if your family stays in Switzerland = yes

There was a (federal) voting some years ago, about letting children of "immigrants" (so-called secondo - what a stupid word) enter an easier application process - and they voted "no". Which basically says it all.

Re: Birth Advantage for passport

There is one advantage, unlike for normal naturalisation requests, once one has spent 12 years (or 6 if between ages 10 and 20) the cantonal/communal residence requirements don't apply.

Therefore one just has to be 12 years in CH period.

If I find my source I will citate it later.

Interesting Msolis - so if you go back to Brazil or Chile you are "born again". Not bad, saves a lot of trouble I guess.

Re: Birth Advantage for passport

The advantages are:

They'll probably be able to speak the local language pretty well, thereby fulfilling one criterion for citizenship.

Every year spent in Switzerland under the age of 18, counts double towards the length of stay criterion.

Incorrect, every year between the ages of 10 and 20 count double.

Not between 0 and 18.
