ANother permit question (L/B and email from canton)

Hello
I have some questions on permits (I read everything in this section, but this is more to do with my boyfriends employer, rather than permits per se)
Basically, we live in Lausanne, in temporary accomodation, and I am currently searching for something more permanent. The problem is, he is working, but no sign of a permit yet.
The HR dept has said something about them applying online, and that an email will eventually come from the canton of Vaud. They are being incredibly vague. One HR woman has said that the email will say whether he will get a B or L permit, and the majority of HR people have said that he will only get an L permit and that getting a B permit takes 6 weeks.
The reason why we want to know about L/B permit, is because the majority of flats we looked at, all want a B permit.
Also, if this "email" from the canton says that he will be allocated a B permit, can we use this to apply for to agents or do we have to wait until the actual permit comes through?
Any help is much appreciated!
Thanks!

Re: ANother permit question (L/B and email from canton)

Hi

I currently have only a 'L' Permit but this did not get in the way of applying for an apartment, as long as you can assure them that the 'L' permit is only temporary.
Plus if you are a EU citizen then you are automatically entitled to a 'B' Permit.

Thanks Mojo!

I will keep searching, but I never thought it would be so difficult getting an apartment. You would think they would be happy with THREE months deposit!!!

hi, a friend of mine who works in lausanne with the L permit had not problem renting an apartment, maybe you should change to another real estate co, i heard that it would be easier if you "replace" the other's renting contract.

good luck!

That HR department needs reminding what they are there for. It's their job is to get employees' permits sorted and your husband's remit to do his job. So, unless he is HR himself - he needs to tell them to get their finger out and do their job...

Re: ANother permit question (L/B and email from canton)

1 of all, SUPER IMPORTANT, never told anyone on this website your husband's details, because before he get a permit and he already start working is ILLEGAL!!! its very dangereous, and you can get in trouble with that.

2nd with an L permit, you still can get an apartment, as long as you ask your bf's company to write a nice letter saying, L permit is just for the moment and after one year they will change it into B, and they have the wish to employe him for long term. (my company did it for me)

3rd, no matter substitute someone else's apartment contract or not, the desicion is always made by the owner, not the person who is going to move out, so from my view, its the same.owner always wants more gurantee...its understandable.

4th, only for your personal info, you had better ask the company to pay the deposite for 3 months if possible, 3 months deposite is quite normal in switzerland, because in case the company didnt keep their words to prolang the L permit, then you can hold them responsble.

well good luck

btw...the HR sounds useless
