Is there a pension for Swiss deaf people?

People: I'm asking to someone that could know about the Swiss system of pensions and subsidies. The fact is that I'm a deaf one and a Swiss citizen living outside our country so, is there any kind of pension for Swiss deaf people? Thank you in advance.

I suggest you ask the commune (gemeinde) where your registered. I imagine this is an IV (invalidity pension) inquiry so will be assessed individually and probably to some extent in person.

Re: Is there a pension for Swiss deaf people?

Now that I had read carefully that thread, I'd say that it's about how the Swiss state could cover the cost of the hearing aid.

That wasn't exactly the stuff that I asked for.

Some of the European countries give different kinds of subsidy to their deaf peoples (no matter if they are employed or not). Spain pays monthly 800 euros to each deaf. Britain gives around of 500 pounds to each deaf.

This kind of subsidy isn't 100% medical, it's like a supplement for the deaf's wage (if he/she is already employed) or like a kind of unemployment insurance.

So I'm thinking to write to my gemeinde about this stuff as Oldhand suggested.

If anyone knows better about this, let's feel free to tell me more.

Re: Is there a pension for Swiss deaf people?

I found this, in French, about the situation regarding deaf people in Switz:

http://www.bien-entendre.ch/schlechtes_hoeren/suva_iv/

It looks like you can be granted money to buy material, approved by the AVS/AI/AM/SUVA (although if you want more sophisticated stuff you can top up yourself the expense) which is a federal fund for which your participation is paid as a percentage of your salary (it covers old age pension, invalidity benefits and varous other things).

The list of cantonal offices is found here:

http://www.avs-ai.ch/Home-F/Generalites/OAI/oai.html

On a general basis, there seems to be plenty of stuff for deaf in Switz (about 200000 live there) particularly in term of support groups, I even found a Gay and Lesbian Deaf association

Re: Is there a pension for Swiss deaf people?

Hi Louis de Funes
I am deaf ( lost over the years almost all my hearing) and wearing hearing aids since my teenage times

The IV ( Invalids insurance)will pay fro your hearing aids in full if you are an employed person in Switzerland and have paid in your shares that are deducted from your salary, every five years you get the right to get new hearing aids.

'Only' being a swiss citizien and not having paid into the insurance, might lead to you not getting anything out of them . (Please, correct me if I am wrong but this is what i assume from your initial post)

With the next IV-revision looming and it being even more strict, chances are very slim that you'd get a subsidy pension at all. The IV has a slogan called 'Integration bevor Rente', this means that before they'd even consider to pay a subsidy of any kind, they will try to re integrate you into the workforce so that you'd be able to sustain yourself. Of course they'd pay for anything, apart the special flashlight alarm clock ( it's no joke!!!), that you'd need to be able to work, because in the long run this is less expensive than if they'd had to pay you a pension of some kind.

this just some info in a nutshell from someone who has to deal with the IV regularly,if you want to know more, feel free to PM me or email to eastenders(AT)bluemail(DOT)ch

Cheers

EE
