Change job - B permit non EU/EFTA

Hi all,

I am canadian citizen living and working here in Zurich. I have B permit non EU/EFTA. This is my first year here.

I am looking at my permit and I can see that the name of my employeer is there. When I look at the back it says that I can not change the kanton or job without getting permission form the authorities?

I am currently working for the company which is more like comedy show and really want to change my job asap. I am close to get an offer from one of the financial companies here in Zurich and wondering if I eligable to change the job. My B permit is due to be renewed July 2007.

Can someone please tell me if it is possible to change job if you have B permit for non EU/EFTA countries, and what would be the process to associate my permit to new employeer.

Many thanks in advance!

Pluto

Hi Pluto

Yes it s possible, I was in the same situation 1 month ago.
In my case the new employer applied new working permit for me after I signed contract with them, and after receiving an agreement from Canton I gave notice to my current employer.

Hi Ella,

Thanks very much for your post.

I was browsing other threads on this forum and almost got shocked by reading this one below:
http://www.englishforum.ch/permits-visas-government/5182-zurich-canton-work-permit-rejected.html
I feel sorry big time for Nestekjos...

I think you did it right by singing the contract, getting the approval from the canton and than give the notice to your current employer. I am only windering if this is legal from Swiss authorities prospective...apply for the permit with new company without residing from first.
If I get the offer than I will need to do the same thing as you did, same sequence......the only question is if teh new employer will wait for the whole thing or it will just go back on market and get someone without too much husstle.

I also think that my permit is valid only for two years eventhough is B permit.

May I ask what permit you have?

Thanks a lot !

Pluto

Hey you!
as long as your permit is valid you can sign up a contract for another company. My friend Fab is actually from Canada and worked here for three years with his lovely wife and kids.

Tread very carefully here, as you've seen things can go pear-shaped. I'd highly recommend waiting to hand in your notice until the bank give it you in writing that you are eligible for a new permit with them.

Hi Pluto

Yes I am on a non EU B which is tied to my current employer. I received something called 'Einverständnis' for the new employer from the canton(actually I dont know what exactly it is, sort of agreement i suppose). I will have to apply the new work permit once I relocate to the new canton and start the job.
Yes the new employer will have too wait, i dont see there is any better way out there. Maybe you can negotiate the notice period with current company?

Re: Change job - B permit non EU/EFTA

Hi Ella,

I understand that your new employer is located in a different canton. So is this letter from your old canton giving you their 'permission' for the employer/canton change? What I've read from other threads suggest that such a letter is required in case of obtaining the work permit from the new canton. How do you ask for this letter in the first place? Is your old employer involved in it?

I'm in the same situation and my new employer is applying for the permit in the new canton except that I was not asked to produce such documents, neither from my canton nor from my current employer, so I'm a bit skeptical about how the process works.. Anyone with similar experience/knowledge on this?
